Facts of Me

Its been a long time since I blogged.
I miss it, a lot but I cant seem to get it done.
We lost our camera and that has taken a toll on my blogging..
And then there are some other good things going on and I cant share them with you I just find myself kind of in a block…
But anyway, lets explore a little about me…
-I trip a lot, I dont know whats-up with that. My hubby sometimes holds my hand as we cross the road as he says I might trip and fall at the center of the road.
-These days am a crazy sleeper. I sleep everywhere and anywhere, and I start dreaming in like 2 seconds.I even sleep on my desk at work and start dreaming like immediately.
-Am obsessed with mangoes right now. I’ve already eaten three and its only 11 a.m.
-I love reality TV, Giuliana & Bill, Tia & Tamera, The Bachelor are some of my favorites.
-Am good at keeping secrets. I never tell, like never.
-I think I’ll never use my degree…
-I dont like drinking plain milk..I have to add chocolate or something
-I do love food, but I dont eat as much as I would like.
-My hubby loves pork and I love it too but he is kinda obsessed and we almost always disagree on what kind of meat to buy. His choice=pork always.
-I think I’ve come to the end of my facts.

Loving Lately and More About Me

Hi lovely people!
I think am high, I feel like am numb, I feel sleepy, I feel crazy.
I have a stupid cold and I took some tablets yesterday night!
Problem is, those cold tablets usually make me feel like am drunk.
Anyway, if you have home remedies that can make me feel better and stop this menace, please do send them my way…..
Now, onto what am loving lately:
One thing…Crochet and more crochet. Am currently trying to learn as much as I can from YouTube and bloggers and I can say I am learning and I am loving it.
I hope to become an expert and make cute beanies like these ones. Will def keep you informed on my progress.
Next up is one of my favorite link-ups that happens once a month: Me, Myself & I.
1.What is your favorite season and why?
My favorite season would have to be fall. Yes, I know I’ve said it many times here that we don’t really have seasons here but we do have weather changes that reflect seasons. The cool yet kind of warm nature of fall fascinates me. It signifies change into something better and I love that.
2. Talk about a moment that changed your life
One moment??How can I pinpoint just one moment, it is difficult. But, I would say the day I started my first job. It signified that I was officially an adult and I had to take responsibility for my decisions.
3.If you could be one Crayola crayon color, what would you be and why?
I would be lemon yellow. This color signifies a joyful spirit that is still subtle and too screaming. I love it.
4.Describe yourself a superhero.Superpower?Name?Sidekick?
If I had a superpower, then it would have to healing people or restoring their energy. I believe good health is one of the most important things that we usually take for granted. I would love to help people feel better in an instant.
5.If you had all the money in the world and could only shop at 3 stores, where would you shop?
I don’t know about this one because I shop everywhere. I would have to say that I would go with handmade stuff especially on etsy or storenvy since I like to support crafts.

Me, Myself and I

Hello my lovely peeps!! Hope your week is going well and you are being the best you can.
I hope your lives are flowing, smoothly, with no hitches.
Anyway, the blogosphere is a huge place and we sometimes get caught up in the process of blogging that we forget to make the most basic of human needs: connection.
We all want to connect with others and this is why blogging seems so appealing.
This is also the reason why I love the Me, Myself & I link-up. It helps us get to know the human side of bloggers.
So lovely people, this is an opportunity for you to get to know me a little bit better..

1. When you are feeling down, what do you do to pick yourself up?
When am feeling down, I usually shut down and keep to myself. So, to pick myself up I might cook, clean, go for a walk, run, write, cry a little, tell myself that I will be ok, call my bff, eat a lot of food…dance a little, some yoga also helps
2.If you had to live in a different time period, which would you prefer?
I would love to live in the 1920’s. The Gatsby era, so pompous and life seemed so full. I’d have loved to see the prosperity in the world at that time.

3. What is the most creative Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?
There is nothing like Halloween in Kenya so I cannot answer this. However, I will let you in on a secret, in High school I was always part of the music festivals and we used to wear sisal skirts to enhance the dance movements. #loved it.
4. Five weird things we wouldn’t know without being told?
a)Am always first on the dance floor and I haven’t been on it for at-least five months now.#sad
b)I hate cats. More like, I fear cats. Well, I like their photos but in real life…..don’t come near me.
c)Am a mum’s girl.
d)I think I need fashion help. Jeans and t-shirts are getting boring.
e)I love new things but I loooove my old, familiar things. For example, I can’t seem to let go of my phone which does not even have a camera.
5. What would you tell your 16-year-old self?
To take it easy. To focus more on studies and take time to just be young and enjoy high school.

I am Traumatised

Its Friday morning and me and my hubby are in a public service vehicle going to our place of work. We enter the town as usual but see a crowd of people gathered around a garbage can. Am not the kind of person who stands and watches whatever interests a crowd. However, since we started a blog highlighting the happenings in our town-Thika, we have had a thirst for news and incidences happening here. So, naturally, hubby also for the camera and goes to the scene while I go and open our business since we are running a little late.

After about thirty minutes, hubby comes back and am almost not interested in what he found because am expecting something mundane. But the he shows me the pictures he captured with the camera. And, people am in tears. Real tears. Its crazy how a picture can move you but this is crazy.
What is in the picture you may ask???What moved me to tears??

A fully developed baby boy (foetus) thrown on the road side. The umbilical cord and placenta are still there and the cord is around the baby’s neck. Believe it my dear readers, while in this world, we will see and experience things that words cannot even express.

I was confused when I saw the pictures. I did not know what exactly to feel. Should I be angry, sad, surprised, ashamed of what women are capable of doing??Should I start judging this woman that I do not even know??What am I expected to feel??

Then, this is not even about me. It is about a baby, whose life never began. He did not even get to be held in the arms of his mother. No one told him that they loved him, no one hugged or kissed him. No-one even bothered to wash him after birth and cover him with warm clothing. I can cry and be sad and feel crappy, then judge the mother very harshly but how would that ease this situation. My tears or my judgements will not bring him back to life.

I have no comfort at his time. I have no idea of how I should feel. I am sad and most of all, I am Traumatized.

Oh, and by the way, I missed y’all so much. I thought I was gonna die without all of you, but now am back and am alive. Say hi whenever you can!!

Me, Myself & I: Part II

Hey lovely people??Hope your weekend has been awesome. Am down with a cold since Sunday but am hoping to get better soonest. I have something crazy and traumatizing I want to tell you but that will have to wait until tomorrow. Come back and see. However, for today, I would love for you to get to know me better. Last time I participated in this link-up, I was very excited to learn more about other bloggers so Part two would not pass me by!Lets see how I do this time:

1. What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
If I totally knew I would not fail, I would start my own bakery. And, I would not attempt to do it,I would do it wholeheartedly. Yeah, I said it. I was a little afraid of admitting it but I would. And then expand it to a cooking school. I would entertain all kinds of crazy cooking ideas from innovators and I would enjoy learning and teaching in the school. I would also make the school such that girls and boys from poor families could get in free as long as they were passionate about food and cooking. I would also go to school and learn more about photography and create a cooking website. Finally, I would enjoy doing it all!

2. If you had only six moths left to live, what would you do with the time?
Six months????I would just take my hubby and we would travel around the world. I have always wanted to go to Italy and that would be the first place. We would also go around Europe and the U.S. In the last three months, we would come back to Africa and tour the many beautiful country’s here. Finally, we would land in Kenya, take our family and friends and tour our beautiful country, enjoying each other’s company as much as possible.

3. If a front page news article was written of you, what would the headline be?
Top Kenyan food blogger talks to Oprah about optimism, love and enjoying life…

4. What is your biggest pet peeve?
This has to be pride. I mean, I like people who are proud of their achievements but when pride comes to showing off and shoving people around, it does bother me. Humility always clicks in with me. I love people who can talk to anyone and do not classify themselves or others.

5.What is your favorite chick flick movie?

I love chick flicks. It is hard to pick one so here is the list: The Vow, Dear John, The Back Up Plan, This Means War. And everything involving Reese Witherspoon or Channing Tatum.

Me, Myself & I

Of Temples, Jeans and Nature Walks

My weekend was just cool!!Lots of walking around and seeing nature. On Saturday, I spent the day with my better half!We had a great morning and then I slept in the afternoon. Much needed rest. Did laundry in the evening and spent the night relaxing. Sunday was more eventful since I had to go take care of a family member. I hope she gets well soon. Here are some of the shots from the weekend!

1. Me, walking around in my b/fs tshirt and jeans. And a backpack too. Outside a Hindu temple in our town.
2. Seeing some of the beautiful buildings with gorgeous architecture in our town.
3. 4. 5. 6. Beautiful shots of nature. Just so you know, our town is a mix of urban and rural so I get to enjoy farm life just a few minutes from the town. I love living here!

                                                                  weekend update

Never, ever, ever startle me….

Phonophobia: it even has a name!
First, I hate being startled. Second, I fear being startled. Its crazy, I get into such a panic when someone startles me. I might even cry. Funny thing: those whom I tell to never startle me, always do it again. And I always fall for it and scream or make a really bad face.
So, now you know to never startle me ever! And to make it clear, here is my startle face. My b/f snuck up on me, startled me and took a picture. I love the face, totally priceless

Hope you had a great weekend with no startles!

The last 72 hours: Photo Overload

Ok, in these parts, a weekend that begins with a public holiday on Friday is termed as a long weekend. So, on Friday we had lots of fun with b/f taking photos of the national celebrations. For more on that, you can find pictures on our other blog Thika Live.
1. Taking a shortcut through a maize plantation.

2. Me, being all tomboyish. I know I cropped the rest of the photo but I was pointing at a big sack which I was about to jump. This was at b/f’s parents.

3. Just chillin! This bird was so relaxed.

4. Me, being all goofy!

5. Colorful: there’s green everywhere.

6.7.8: Meeeeee!Who wants a piece of me?

It was a good weekend!Lots of resting and walking and laughing but now I have a cold. But we gonna conquer that too, with a beautiful week!

What am Loving today

Its midweek already and that means that the countdown to the weekend is on. Today, instead of pinning some beautiful Pinterest finds, I decided to just write about the things that are making me happy this week. I know I have said this in many other posts but I just have to say it again. Sometime, it is just awesome to sit down and look for things that are making you smile, making you laugh or just keeping you peaceful.
So without further ado, these are the things that am loving right now:

1. Am loving the rains. I got rained on yesterday and I know I should be sad but am appreciating the change in weather. Its good fro me but it is even better for the farmers who are planting right now all around Kenya.
2. Am loving that am taking my driving test tomorrow and I know am gonna do very well. I always wanted to learn driving and now I have. Funny enough, I love. Cant wait to have my car and drive it. I love that its been so much fun.
3. Am loving the time we’ve been spending with my b/f. Watching soccer, laughing, watching movies, cooking and just fooling around. Am loving that we miss each other when we are apart. Am loving that we are enjoying each other so much more.
4. Am loving time spent with my best friend. I love understanding one another and sharing things that we could not share with anyone else.
5. Am loving that the stats on my blog have gone up noticeably over the recent past. I love it when people read random things I write. I appreciate you my readers.
6. Am loving my life in general right now. Am loving how I am capable of soothing myself when things don’t go as expected. Am loving how I easily get to see the good in everything.
7. Am loving ME. Just being Millie, everything about me.
8. Am loving this quote;
Love you.
